Our client Sappi is a worldwide diversified wood fibre group, focused on dissolving wood pulp, paper-based solutions and high-quality functional biomaterials. Production facilities are located on three continents with sales activities in more than 150 countries. Sappi uses its leading global position and substantial investments in research and development (R&D) in coated graphical paper, special packaging material, dissolving wood pulp and biorefinery-processes to anticipate growing global demand for functional high-quality biomaterials.
Sustainability is not an add-on, but deeply ingrained in the way Sappi manages its daily activities, mitigates risks, utilizes chances and plans for the future. Sappi has taken responsibility for its worldwide best practices in the field of sustainability by measuring, guarding and communicating its economical, social and environmental performance in a transparent way. Sappi is continuously diversifying its product portfolio and is exploring new business opportunities in packaging and specialties and in fields that complement paper and paper pulp. One of the new business initiatives for example is ‘Symbio’. This is a new biocomposite material combining high-quality cellulose fibres derived from wood, and a plastic material such as polypropylene. Symbio is suitable for a broad range of applications across furniture, appliances, consumer electronics and automotive components. Sappi Symbio is using a market-driven approach to develop new products and currently, a basic portfolio and production capacity has been established. To further accelerate the commercialization of Symbio, we are looking for a Sales Manager.
A Business Developer with a focus on long-term relations

The challenge

You drive customer acquisition and revenue growth by understanding customer needs and matching the Symbio value proposition. You are responsible for maximizing the sales potential, developing sales plans and motivating those plans to Business Management. This includes lead generation and the follow-through for both new and existing business with a thorough understanding of the product, market, applications and customer dynamics. You are strongly contributing to the development of new products, business models and go-to market strategies. Your main activities are identifying and engaging with potential new and existing customers from lead generation to generating sales, developing customer-specific offerings from the product and service portfolio in order to capitalize on commercial opportunities, in collaboration with Business Management and Product Management. You maintain close contact with R&D and product management in order to initiate and steer product improvement and new product development according to market needs and opportunities. Furthermore, you manage customer activities initiated by possible distributors and agents, and you are managing the total sales transaction with customers.
You are building your own solid understanding of the features and benefits of the product portfolio in relation to applicable markets and applications. You will support Business Management in setting up and implementing sales and marketing strategies for the product portfolio. Finally, you participate in business team meetings, and budget and forecast preparation processes. In this challenging position, you report directly to the General Manager of Symbio.

Your profile

You are a strong team player that likes to operate in cross-functional teams, and comfortable in an environment that is continuously changing (organization structure, job content, markets, products and (manual) processes). You have extensive sales and technical experience in plastic and/or composite application development – at least five years, with a relevant business degree at BSc level as a minimum. You have a thorough understanding of injection moulding and ideally sales experience in automotive, homeware/kitchenware, furniture and/or acoustic markets or similar. You have a natural curiosity in order to develop new products / new markets / new customers. You must have solid technical competence, strong sales and negotiation skills and a demonstrated track record of winning sales in new markets. You are stress resistant and can deal with uncertainty; you display initiative and are a self-starter; you have experience with innovation processes in a B2B environment. You are diplomatic and a strong communicator with good people skills, good listening skills, good communication skills (written and verbal) and good presentation skills. Fluency in English is required (knowledge of any other language – German, French or Dutch – will be considered an asset). You have excellent reporting and systems skills: MS office, SAP, Salesforce and Business Warehouse (BOA). This position will require extensive travelling including nights away on a regular basis.
